Dermatology Is More Than Just Skin


The science of dermatology consists of much more than just acne problems. The skin is the largest organ in the human body, and there are many different problems that people can face when it comes to their skin. There are two main areas of practice that doctors can work in, and those are either clinical or cosmetic dermatology. The clinical area of practice includes all medical issues that people experience with their skin. Some of these issues may include skin cancer, acne, rosacea, eczema and psoriasis.

Eating a well-balanced diet that consists of a variety of fruits, vegetables, and water is a great start. Another critically important step is to avoid prolonged sun exposure. Repeated exposure to the sun's rays is a quick way to get wrinkles.

 Using a sunscreen or sun-protective moisturizer with an SPF of at least 30 daily is a great way to protect the skin's elasticity. There are a variety of treatments that also help to restore the skin's healthy appearance. Some of these treatments include using topical antioxidants, chemical peels, microdermabrasions, and laser or light treatments. Some of the cosmetic procedures that people undergo commonly include Botox, re-surfacing treatments, fat injections, and face-lifts.

Many of these procedures are done to reduce the visibility of wrinkles and fine lines and to give the skin a more youthful overall appearance. No matter what problems or skin care needs you may have, it is important to find a dermatology office that you feel comfortable with. This office will be become a regular part of your skin care regime so you want to feel at home. Just like with any medical procedure it is important to educate yourself about all of the options that you have available.
